REAL TIME MONITORING
Lacroix Electronics (2018)
HMI
Lacroix Electronics is a manufacturer of electronic components.
The Real Time Monitoring project was to design a HMI (Human Machine Interface) presenting their metrics. The first prototype, presented here, was set up on the site of Saint-Pierre Montlimart (49, in Maine-et-Loire) in 2019.

CHALLENGE
How can we display production line data to the production workshop teams, accelerating their decision-making - especially in case of problems - and measure the productivity of a line?
ASSIGNMENT
Creation of an interface that allows:
The Lacroix group leadership to monitor the performance of operational teams.
Supervisory personnel to increase their responsiveness and quickly escalate issues.
Operators to have visibility into workload and measure their success rates.
This interface aims to empower all stakeholders and enhance overall efficiency within the organization.
« To transcribe performance data in real time (with refresh intervals of 15 to 30 seconds), directly at the workstation, consider implementing a solution that allows operators and production personnel to be promptly informed and alerted about any equipment deviations. »

UNDERSTAND & DEFINE
_ Immersion & observation in situ (shadowing)
_ Qualitative Research : interviews with operators from the site and other experts (i.e. Maintenance, Quality)
_ Synthesis of the collected insights
_ Workshops Animation (ideation & prototype)
CONCEIVE / PROTOTYPE / DESIGN
_ Wireframes (optimization of the proposals created during the workshop)
_ Graphic layout & prototype
_ Asset preparation for easy production (UI Kit & GUI)
KEY LEARNINGS
This project was the first one I undertook for the Lacroix group teams. Satisfied with my intervention, they reached out to me repeatedly afterward for other entities within the group (e.g., Lacroix Groupe or Lacroix Environnement).
It’s not always easy to engage participants in a co-creation workshop, especially when they are unfamiliar with these approaches. However, to my great surprise, the group wholeheartedly embraced the process. This working session exceeded my expectations, as it also revealed issues that went beyond the initial scope of the consultation.
I take away a valuable lesson in humility and a deeper understanding of what my instructors mean when they discuss a facilitator’s (low) posture: it involves trusting the group so that this trust radiates from within.
« As the Project Manager for Real Time Monitoring at Lacroix Electronics, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Romina. We followed her recommendations for designing the line-side screens that enable real-time performance tracking of our production tool. By leveraging user journeys, she accurately captured the expectations of our production staff, significantly easing the adoption of this new tool. It was indeed an intriguing experience, one I would gladly repeat when the opportunity arises.»

FEEDBACK REPORT 2020
A year and a half later, I reached out to my main contact person, Dominique Maisonneuve, to gather feedback and inquire about the adoption of the tool. It’s always valuable to assess how well a solution has been integrated and utilized within an organization.
« For now, the results are not quantifiable, but it has now become part of the landscape. When things don’t work, people come back to us. With this project, we were able to make the real equipment performance visible, enabling us to embark on a continuous improvement journey. »

“Excellent work from Romina. Always consider ergonomists when planning a human-machine interface!”
“Thank you, Romina, for the UX design… a crucial factor in user adoption.”
The Real Time Monitoring screens are now installed in several sites across the Lacroix group in France and abroad.
